It may be that your city provides walking paths for its residents, so perhaps check online to see if there are maps of walking trails. Having an enjoyable place to walk is half the battle! You will also want to find a path that doesn&#8217;t have too many hills, at least in the beginning. Once you get into better shape, you&#8217;ll be able to challenge yourself more by trying a more challenging course. But in the beginning, you may want to select a flat course that will allow you to slowly build up your strength.</p>

Your body temperature will warm up as you go, so try to dress in layers that can be easily removed if you feel too warm. Often a t-shirt with a zippered sweatshirt over top is ideal. That way, you can unzip or even remove the sweatshirt as your body temperature rises. You will also want to take water with you and make sure to hydrate along the way. </p>
<p>If you feel tired, don&#8217;t hesitate to take a break. You can sit for a few minutes until you feel like continuing. It&#8217;s best that you enjoy your walk so that it will become an enjoyable and regular habit. Of course, you will want to push yourself to walk faster and farther eventually, but for now just be glad that you are off the couch and outdoors, where you can enjoy fresh air and sunshine! </p>
<p>If you are walking alone, you may want to listen to music along the way. If you have an i-Pod or an mp3 player, you can listen to any kind of music you like. You can also download audio books and listen to some great storytellers. All the while, you are engaging in a healthy and enjoyable way to getting fit and hopefully losing weight. The benefits of walking are better health, more restful sleep and a better appetite. You will hopefully notice all of these changes if you can make walking a regular habit. If you can find a friend to walk with you, you will discover that it is easier to maintain your motivation as well.
